What is the Healthera and eConsult partnership?

eConsult has partnered with Healthera to connect patients directly to pharmacy services, particularly Pharmacy First. This integration aims to support practices in managing demand, especially with upcoming GP contract changes, by directing patients to appropriate services before they contact their GP.

For patients, this offers greater choice and faster access to the right care. On starting an eConsult for the following conditions:

  • Sinusitis

  • Sore throat

  • Bites and stings

  • Urine problem

  • Rash, spots and skin

Patients will be signposted to pharmacy services via Healthera.

How does the Pharmacy First service work?

Through Healthera, patients can book a video or face to face consultation with their chosen pharmacy, to get help for common conditions: UTI, shingles, impetigo, infected insect bites, sore throat and sinusitis.

For patients, the process is as follows:

  1. Provide their postcode, age, and sex at birth

  2. Answer some questions to check if a referral is appropriate

  3. Select the date and time of the consultation

  4. A confirmation email is sent

  5. A reminder email is sent

  6. Patient attends consultation

  7. Receives prescription or advice

Do patients have to download the app to use Healthera with eConsult?

No. The integration between eConsult and Healthera happens through the web browser - no app downloads are required. Patients can book a Pharmacy First consultation or request for their repeat medication through the Healthera website which is linked from eConsult.

Can patients book a face to face or video appointment?

Patients have the option of a face-to-face or video consultation. However, face-to-face appointments may not be available in all locations.

How will patients receive medication?

Following a face-to-face consultation, patients can receive their medication at the pharmacy during their visit.

For video consultations, pharmacies will deliver medicine by post. The delivery cost is set by the pharmacy and estimated delivery is 2-3 working days.

How much does it cost?

There is no cost to practices.

For patients, there is no fee for the consultation. For the prescription, patients exempt from charges will also get the prescription for free. If the patient opts for a video consultation, there will be a delivery charge for the prescription.

Participating pharmacies pay Healthera a listing fee that starts from £79/month. Healthera offers various other services.

What if my pharmacy is not currently a Healthera pharmacy?

We are working to bring as many pharmacies on board with Healthera as possible, but this may take a little time. Please email us at support@healthera.co.uk to let us know your pharmacy’s name and their contact details so our team can approach them.
