This step is important and necessary to allow you to recognise the active patient in your SystmOne instance and be able to pull their contact details (e.g. telephone or mobile number) into the eConsult toolbar. It is also needed for saving the response (by email or SMS) straight to the patient record.
Your toolbar version must be 5.6.0 or above.

Setting up the eConsult toolbar to work with your SystmOne
When you first download and set up the toolbar you will need to confirm which, if any, clinical system you would like the toolbar to connect to. You will need SystmOne to be open and logged in to do this. Please note you must only have one instance of SystmOne open at the site/practice (do not have open SystmOne or EMIS for any other sites/practices).
Enter your first and last name and your NHS email address and click next.
Enter your Practice Message ID and eConsult ID.
You can find these at the top of any eConsult PDF report.
If you can’t find these details, please contact us over live chat by pressing the eConsult logo in the bottom right-hand corner of this article or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
We will send you an email to the email address you provided in step 1 with a verification code. This verification code needs to be input here and click verify account.
You will see this final eConsult screen which is where you can indicate which, if any, clinical system you would like the eConsult Toolbar to connect to.
If you do not see this screen please get in touch with us by pressing the eConsult logo in the bottom right corner of this screen. The team will then look into your account to ensure that you have all the SystmOne settings switched on and you will be able to update in the settings screen of the toolbar.
The eConsult toolbar will now try to connect to your SystmOne account. In your SystmOne you will see a pop-up for which you need to click ‘Approve’.
This will then launch your eConsult Toolbar with the connection to SystmOne, click here if you’re having issues.
Configuring your SystmOne
The final step to setting up the SystmOne integration is to ensure that you configure the contact methods correctly by adding email and text. This is a simple process and ensures that all the message and Smart Inbox saved from the toolbar uploads correctly into SystmOne. If this step is not done then error messages will appear in the Smart Inbox when you try to save.
Updating the eConsult Toolbar to work with your SystmOne
If you already have the toolbar downloaded you may need to update your toolbar version (as suggested by the toolbar itself) by pressing on the orange banner above the toolbar.
Your toolbar version should be 1.16.0 or higher if it’s updated. If it’s a lower number than that, it hasn’t updated itself yet. To find out what version of the toolbar you have at the moment, right-click on the three dots and go to 'Settings'.
You are then able to select SystmOne and select ‘Update settings’.
The eConsult toolbar will now try to connect to your SystmOne account. In your SystmOne you will see a pop-up, for which you need to click ‘Approve’. This will finish the connection with the eConsult Toolbar and SystmOne
FAQs and troubleshooting
I accidentally clicked ‘Not Now’ in the SystmOne pop-up
No worries, the Toolbar configuration screen will look like this. Please click ‘Launch toolbar’ to bring the pop-up again in SystmOne and click ‘Approve’.
I accidentally clicked ‘Block’ in the SystmOne pop-up
You will need to manually approve the eConsult Toolbar in SystmOne.
Go into the ‘Set-up’ menu in the SystmOne menu bar and then click ‘Mobile working & integration’ and then ‘Device manager’
From here you will be able to select the eConsult toolbar from the blocked list and press the “Approve Device” button.
If you did not finish setting up your toolbar you should no longer see an error and be able to launch the toolbar.
If you launched the toolbar without interop you will need to follow the 'Updating the eConsult Toolbar to work with your SystmOne' steps.
I clicked “None” because at the time I didn’t want to set it up yet. Now I’m ready to enable it

I am seeing a ‘permissions’ error when setting up S1 toolbar integration
If you are seeing an error stating ‘SystmOne needs permission to connect to the eConsult Toolbar’ it is because SystmOne has told us you have not approved the toolbar.
If you no longer want eConsult to connect to your SystmOne please click ‘None’ instead of ‘SystmOne’ and you will be able to launch the toolbar without the SystmOne connection.
If you would like to connect to SystmOne please follow the instructions for I accidentally clicked ‘Block’ in the SystmOne pop-up.
I am not seeing the screen with the option to set up the connection to SystmOne.
Please get in touch with us by pressing the eConsult logo in the bottom right corner of this screen. The team will then look into your account to ensure that you have all the SystmOne settings switched on.
I have more than one SystmOne instance up or EMIS open and it is not connecting
Please close down the additional instances/sites/practice of SystmOne and make sure you are just on the one site. If you have EMIS running please close as well. The toolbar will only work with one instance of a clinical system open.
How do I know my eConsult Toolbar connection to SystmOne is working?
In your eConsult Toolbar go to the messaging icon and you should see the current patient is active in green at the top and you have an option to send an SMS to the active SystmOne patient.
I'm having problems connecting my S1 instance with the toolbar
Connect to the toolbar using the 'None' option when you launch the toolbar. When the toolbar shows please right-click the 4 dots on the left of the toolbar and 'Report a problem'. Please type in a short message so that our support team have better details about your device and how we might be able to help you.
